One can loose a lot of units when lenient on control, but in contrast the feeling of optimally using a small crowd is what makes this game immensely fulfilling. Unlike the games after it this one is more of an action oriented game and the "select a million units and send off" is not possible. To me the best the series has to offer - beautiful graphics, sound and gameplay which is highly addictive. That is one of the things that bugs me, that strength is seen as being the most powerful attribute there is according to the DMG for designing races, when Con is an attribute that is important for every class, and the benefits stack as you level.
